On 16th July 2025, the girls at our rescue centre were treated to an inspiring and uplifting day, thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of the students and staff from KCA University. The day started with the arrival of Mr. and Miss KCA University, who were joined by their peers from various university campuses. These university students came with a mission to empower the girls with a new skill: modeling.
The students began the day by teaching the girls the fundamentals of modeling, which not only focused on physical posture and walking techniques but also emphasized the importance of self-confidence, body positivity, and how to embrace one’s uniqueness. These life skills were invaluable for our girls, who have often faced societal pressures to conform to restrictive traditional roles.
As the day progressed, a modeling competition was organized, where two of the girls showcased their newly acquired skills. The competition was not only fun but also an excellent platform for the girls to express themselves and gain recognition for their talents. The winners of the competition were awarded prizes, which included clothing and foodstuff—gifts that were much appreciated by all.
But the real highlight of the day was the opportunity for the girls to connect on a deeper level with the KCA University staff and students. Over a shared meal, the girls bonded with the university visitors, who took the time to listen to their personal stories and offer words of encouragement. A particularly heartwarming moment was when one of the university staff members, a Maasai woman, shared her story of overcoming challenges to succeed in education and life. Seeing someone who shared their heritage thriving in the world beyond Kajiado County gave the girls a new sense of hope and determination. It was a clear message to them that success is possible, no matter where you come from, and that through hard work and perseverance, they too could achieve great things.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to KCA University for their continued support and for bringing such a positive, life-changing experience to the girls at our centre. This day was more than just a learning opportunity; it was a reminder that there are people out there who truly care and are willing to invest in the futures of these young girls.
